A Selection of the work on display in our recent Christmas Show.

We are very excited to have set up an artists' collective to run the gallery. This means that all the artists work together to man the gallery and in return, pay no commission, and can therefore offer people work at a price that doesn't reflect the cut normally taken by galleries. It also offers us the potential to welcome more contemporary artists into Tavistock, and build on the amazing momentum created by the gallery's launch. New artists joining us this time are Cathy Freeman and Philippa Smith.

Using the geographical environment as its starting point, alongside the work of the poet Alice Oswald, this show featured a range of work by contemporary local artists. We were particularly excited to be exhibiting the works of two recent graduates, the photographer Wojciech Witulski and the award-winning painter, Rose Gibbon . Their work was shown alongside Jules and Laura's new work as well as printer Sophie Fordham, painter Dorothy Hanna and Maggi Squire

Our opening show happened very quickly after us recieving the keys to the gallery, and many favours were called in to get it up and running. The prize-winning photographer Leonie Purchas and award-winning film-maker Martin Hampton displayed their work , alongside printmaker Lynn Hatzius and ceramicist Jenny George. Jules Greaves and Laura Hopes, the founders of Contemporary Art Tavistock, curated the show as well as displaying their own work: a mixture of installation, ornament, painting and printing.
